It is very similar in function, you can even inflate it to the point it is rounded. I think considering it a "space friendly" alternative is fair.
Is the wiggle seat also designed to stand on with one foot to improve balance?
I don't think this is that usefulf for that purpose plus the knobs make it a little uncomfortable to stand on - good bum massage but too intense for feet. I think what you are looking for is a round balance board which allows you to stand with one or two feet to improve balance or your abs
Would this work on an airplane seat?
Yes. I believe so. My 6 yr old uses it at school, the dinner table and on the floor. Im.sure it would work on an airplane.
